Departmental Requirements

Undergraduate program:
1. Applicants should have sufficient listening, speaking, reading, and writing ability in Chinese. They are required to provide Chinese proficiency certificates (intermediate level or above of TOCFL or New HSK) or relevant Chinese language certificates, Chinese self-hand-written autobiographies and certificates of Chinese language classes for at least a year.
2. Applicants from non-native Chinese or non-native English speaking countries are suggested to provide English proficiency certificates, such as TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS or BULATS. Applicants from English-speaking countries, such as Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa or the United States of America, or those who had studied and obtained previous degrees in these countries can provide the certified documents or diploma instead of the English proficiency certificates.

Master program:
1. Applicants should have sufficient listening, speaking, reading, and writing ability in Chinese. They are required to provide Chinese proficiency certificates (intermediate level or above of TOCFL or New HSK) or relevant Chinese language certificates, Chinese self-hand-written autobiographies and certificates of Chinese language classes for at least a year.
2. Applicants from non-native Chinese or non-native English speaking countries are suggested to provide English proficiency certificates, such as TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS or BULATS. 3. Applicants should visit the department website and contact the professors that could be their potential advisors.

Ph.D. program:
1. Applicants are required to provide their college and graduate transcripts, a copy of their Master degree thesis and the other relevant academic publications.
2. Applicants from non-native Chinese or non-native English speaking countries should have sufficient listening, speaking, reading, and writing ability in English. They have to provide English proficiency certificates (such as IELTS 5.5, TOEFL-iBT 87, TOEIC 785 or BULATS 60 above).
Applicants from English-speaking countries, such as Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa or the United States of America, or those who had studied and obtained previous degrees in these countries can provide the certified documents or diploma instead of the English proficiency certificates.
