Graduation Requirements

*The following is summarized from ICID requirements (http://www.icid.ncku.edu.tw/en/academics/graduation-procedure/)
●Credit hours
Ph.D. students are required to complete 18 course credits together with 12 dissertation credits.
1.Students may take up related courses (at a maximum equiv. to 6 credits) at domestic national universities and any overseas universities recognized by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan.
2.Students should take up to at least 3 courses (equiv. to 9 credits) from ICID.
3.The supervisors and the Teaching and Course Committee hold the authority to evaluate and decide the transferrable graduation credits. All the credit-transfer should be in accordance with related regulations stipulated by the Teaching and Course Committee.
4.The subjects for Qualifying Examination should be ICID courses.
5.Non-design background Ph.D. students are required to make up design courses before applying the Ph.D. candidacy qualifying examination second phase. The characteristics of background and the make-up courses as well as credits shall be decided by the Teaching and Course Committee. The maximum of make-up credits are 9 credits and excluded from graduation credits. The said make-up credits should be in accordance with related regulations stipulated by the Teaching and Course Committee.
●The regulations of the Ph.D candidacy Qualifying Examination will be stipulated in the “National Cheng Kung University/ Institute of Creative Industries Design/ Bylaw of Qualifying Examination for Ph.D. Candidate.”
●Requirements for applying the Ph.D. degree oral defense:
1 Completing the required subjects and at least 18 credit hours of coursework (not including seminars and 12 dissertation credits); Completing 30 credit hours of coursework (not including seminars and 12 dissertation credits) for postgraduates who study for doctoral program directly
2 A Ph.D. students must fulfill at least two points of academic achievements during the permitted study (including study suspension) length before applying for degree defense:
(1) International conference papers with anonymous peer review.
(2) International refereed patent certificate or domestic refereed invention patent certificate.
(3) Awardees of an international creative competition.
(4) Records of creative works exhibition and report on creative brief.
(5) Book publication by recognized publisher Records of creative works exhibition and report on creative brief.
(6) Assisting establishment of related business or institution with technical reports.
(7) Establishment of related business or institution over six months with operation experiment reports.

The foregoing academic achievements should be co-authored with supervisors and must be dissertation-related, otherwise will be ineligible. When achievements are co-authored with other students, the first student can possess fully contributive order of the coauthors, the second one possesses 1/2 contributive order, and the third one possessed 1/3. (Co-authored supervisors would not be counted in the contributive order.)
3 The interval between the passing of the Postgraduate proposal examination and the application for the degree oral defense shall be a minimum length of four months and across different semesters.
● Students are required to complete at least one of the following minimum language-learning achievements one month prior to applying oral defense:
(1) TOEFL PBT 550、CBT 220 or IBT 87
(2) IELTS 6.0(overall)
(3) TOEIC 785 and Speaking test level 6, Writing test level 7
(4) The advanced level of GEPT
(5) Studying or being granted credits in overseas universities recognized by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan and continuing staying in non-Chinese nations for at least six months. Besides, if you are representing as a visiting scholar, please hand in the English report for the board meeting examination.
(6) DAF 2 of TestDaF (Test Deutsh als Fremdsprache) or N2 level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test
